Après-ski and skiing in winter 2021/2022: There are strict requirements for winter tourism in Austria in the coming season.

In return, other restrictions are no longer applicable.

Vienna - Austria has introduced a 3-step plan.

An FFP2 mask requirement for shopping has been in effect again since September 15.

If the number of Covid patients in the intensive care units continues to rise, it may become even worse.

Strict Corona rules should also apply to winter tourism in the coming season.

Which, however, can worsen depending on the capacity utilization of the intensive care beds with Covid patients.

Before the start of the winter season, Tourism Minister Elisabeth Köstinger (ÖVP) and Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein (Greens) explained the Corona rules for the winter season on Monday.

The “guiding principle for autumn and winter is that there will be virtually no restrictions for those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered,” says Köstinger.

Except for the mask requirement, which would apply to everyone.

The 3G rule (vaccinated, recovered, tested) and an FFP2 mask requirement should apply to all levels in cable cars in Austria.

There will be no distance rules and capacity restrictions for the ski lifts.

3G proof will also be required for restaurants and hotels.

From level 2, however, only one PCR test would be sufficient, explained Köstinger.

Cable cars, restaurants and hotels are no longer allowed to accept self-tests.

Corona winter in Austria: Corona rules for après-ski

The rules for après-ski should be based on those of nighttime gastronomy.

This means that the 2G rule is applied here.

If the number of corona intensive care patients in Austria increases to 300, unvaccinated people are no longer allowed to visit après-ski bars - not even with negative test results, said Health Minister Wolfgang Mückstein.

Austria: 3-step plan depending on the number of Covid-19 patients in the intensive care units

  • Level 1: utilization of 200 intensive care beds.

  • Level 2: 300 intensive care beds occupied with Covid-19 patients.

  • Level 3: After exceeding 400 occupied intensive care beds with Covid patients.

Austria: 3G rule for Christmas markets

“It is possible to have a carefree and safe winter season,” said Tourism Minister Köstinger.

There is now planning security for businesses and guests.

According to Köstinger, the 3G rule should also apply to Christmas markets.

Health Minister Mückenstein appealed to be vaccinated against corona.

No restrictions are necessary for those who have been vaccinated or recovered for winter tourism.

"If you do that now, it will work out until your winter vacation," says Mückenstein.

When tickets are sold at the lifts, the 3G proof should be checked, explained Tourism Minister Köstinger.

This would then no longer be necessary when accessing a cable car.

Köstinger assumes that a 3G rule for skiing will also be introduced in Bavaria.
