Slackline, ski jumping, climbing - it was sporty on Sunday in the Olympic Stadium.

The fifth Munich outdoor sports festival took place there and met with great demand.

All it takes is one step onto the Olympic site and the mood rises.

It's bustling everywhere, children are beaming, families are laughing together, and good-mood music is playing over large loudspeakers.

The fifth Munich * outdoor sports festival took place in the Olympic Stadium yesterday.

And that was a celebration in the truest sense of the word - because the wide range was well received.

Munich: Take off at the outdoor sports festival

“When you see how long the queues have been here, then that's a success,” said sports advisor Florian Kraus.

This shows the high level of interest shown by Munich residents: 12,500 visitors wanted to discover something new here.

To try something new?

The outdoor sports festival was just right for this.

The visitors were able to test around 20 different sports themselves.

Directly at the north entrance there were many different stations such as a climbing frame, a table tennis arena and various courses.

Nine year old Merle tries out the slackline.

She carefully puts one foot in front of the other - with full concentration.

“We also have one at home, so I've done it before,” she says.

It's not that easy, but it's great fun.

And after practicing a few times, it works out quite well.

So it goes on to the next station.

Her motto: try out as much as possible.

Munich outdoor sports festival - "Quite exhausting"

Archery is only a few meters away.

Next to it is the 3D airplane and there is an area for wheelchair basketball.

Swish!

The ball rushes through the basket with the most beautiful of all noises for basketball players.

"Quite exhausting," says Florian Welzel (43), who is hunting for points with his son Maximilian (12).

In addition, it is not that easy.

"It's a completely different throw because you can hardly do anything with your body," says Florian.

On the way to the south entrance, you pass mountain biking and the end point of the Flying Fox zipline.

Here you can fly across the stadium - at up to 30 km / h.

A small ski jump is set up directly opposite.

Of course, it is not as big as the ski jumping hill in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

But still a huge experience for the children.

The twelve-year-old Lara rushes into the inrun several times in a row.

She is not afraid.

“The hill is low and it's not that difficult,” she says.

After all, she's been skiing herself for nine years.

And the Springer gene runs in the family.

Lara's grandpa used to be a ski jumper.

"We weren't afraid, it was really fun"

On the other side of the stadium, Teqball, more courses and a high climbing tower await. Actually, Luisa is already pretty high up on the wall. You look down. Then she gathers her courage and climbs a little higher - and that at just three years of age. After brother Raphael (6) had already climbed the wall, there was no longer any hesitation. "We weren't afraid, it was really fun and we'll definitely try again," both agree afterwards. The entire Reiter family had come specially from Kaufbeuren. Conclusion: It was worth it, the day served its purpose.

The family is not alone in this opinion.

Even if the sports festival had taken a different form than usual this year.

Due to the corona, it did not take place in the entire Olympic Park, but focused on the circular route in the east above the spectator stand between the north and south entrances.

The conditions could be implemented better here, explained Kraus.

More than 2500 people were not allowed on the site at the same time.

But whoever was inside had a lot of fun - because, appropriately, the weather played along.

Again and again the sun flashed on the tent roof of the stadium.

Most of all, it stayed dry.

Except for stand-up paddling on the Olympic lake - you could get wet there too.

But that didn't change the good mood.
