The election programs of the SPD and the Greens provide for changes to Hartz IV.

The Union wants to keep the current system.

What does that mean in concrete terms?

Berlin - A topic at the third Triell * on Sunday evening (September 19) was Hartz IV *.

The three candidates for chancellor declared their parties' positions on basic security.

SPD Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz on the basic security: Pay must be measured more generously

The SPD wants to turn Hartz IV into a citizen's money, which should enable a life in dignity.

Moderator Linda Zervakis * asked Olaf Scholz * (SPD) a provocative question: “What do you think a life in dignity costs?

500 euro?"

Scholz only let it be elicited that a life in dignity costs much more.

The SPD candidate for chancellor wants to make the standard salaries more generous, but without naming an amount.

The calculation system is to be adapted.

For example, more money could be earmarked for cell phones, which are now part of the basic service.

Otherwise, the SPD is primarily concerned with supporting measures for Hartz IV recipients.

So they shouldn't immediately attack their assets and retirement provisions or shouldn't have to move out of an apartment that is too large when they are reused.

Green Chancellor candidate Annalena Baerbock and the basic security: 50 euros more per month

Annalena Baerbock * defends the Greens' program.

Hartz IV is to become a guarantee insurance, for which the recipients do not first have to prove their claims, but which is paid out automatically.

At the same time, the job centers are to be modernized and again have more time for their actual task, the placement of work.

That would also mean that sanctions will be waived.

Instead of the current mini increase from Hartz IV *, Baerbock is asking for a plus of 50 euros to enable the recipients, among other things, to participate in socio-cultural aspects such as going to the cinema.

Union Chancellor candidate Olaf Scholz and basic security: sanctions should remain

Armin Laschet * (CDU), on the other hand, wants to keep the current system.

The job center should focus on getting people back into work.

This includes good childcare so that family and work are compatible.

In addition, children should be helped out of Hartz IV through good educational opportunities and good childcare.

It should also stick to the principle of “promote and challenge”.

This means that there should continue to be sanctions against unwilling Hartz IV recipients, as their abolition cannot be placed in people with low incomes.
