"Kick, spit and hit": Police officer convicted of violence against detainee | Israel today

Abnormal police violence:

After the State Attorney's Office's Police Investigation Department filed an indictment against a police officer for unusual violent and cruel behavior on his part against a suspect who was arrested while handcuffed, he was convicted in the Rishon Lezion Magistrate's Court.

During the period relevant to the indictment, the defendant, Ben Ben Eliyahu, served as a patrol officer in the municipal police at the Lod station.

The indictment states that on 29/04/2018, Raz Shrikki was arrested by the defendant and another police officer on suspicion of committing domestic violence offenses, and was brought to the police station.

According to the indictment, the two policemen led Shrikki to the yard, while the latter was handcuffed.

While they were in the yard, Ben Eliyahu began to push Shrikki hard several times on his upper body, until it fell on a chair that was in place.

In response, Ricky grabbed the defendant's shirt with his hands, which in turn began hitting him on the head and neck nine times.

"The defendant continued his actions until the officer approached him and kept him away from the complainant, who was left to sit on a chair instead while handcuffed and the officer holding his hand. The indictment further alleges that Ben Eliyahu continued to walk around Shrikki as he sat chained to the chair: "Suddenly the defendant approached the complainant again. The indictment states that the police officer also tried to hide his actions and made a false action report, in which he described that he was attacked by the complainant and while omitting the fact that he was the one who attacked first.
