Stoiber does not believe in coalition participation of the Union without an
election
victorious
8.22 a.m.:
Former Union
Chancellor
candidate Edmund Stoiber sees the Union after the federal election only as an election winner in a government coalition.
"I cannot imagine that a traditional ruling party like the Union, which has ruled Germany for well over 50 years and has decisively shaped the country, will join a coalition as a junior partner," said the former CSU head of the dpa news agency.
Even if the election campaign is currently not going well for the Union, Stoiber still believes in a narrow victory for the CDU and CSU.
“The choice is not lost yet.
Now the most important thing is to address the old regular voters.
There is certainly still room for improvement, ”emphasized Stoiber, who will celebrate his 80th birthday on September 28th.
The election is about fundamental decisions, "which we have never had before - keyword conversion of the social market economy to an ecological-social market economy," said Stoiber.
"It's a necessity, but it presents us with enormous challenges."
Cabinet meets for the last time before the
election
8.17 a.m.:
The black and red federal government will meet for the last time before the federal election for a cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
This involves, for example, a program of measures so that climate targets in the building sector can be achieved.
In addition, an interim balance will be drawn one year after the start of a “National Hydrogen Strategy”.
A statement by the federal government on the effectiveness of the so-called Good Day Care Act is also to be resolved.
The billion-dollar federal funding program for day-care centers, which was launched in 2019, requires a corresponding review after two years.
A new Bundestag will be elected on Sunday.
With the constituent session of the newly elected Bundestag, the term of office of Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU), who will no longer run for election, and the previous ministers will end.
The cabinet remains in office until a new government is formed.
SPD parliamentary group manager: the CDU's plan is to "just do nothing
"
5.07 a.m.:
The parliamentary managing director of the SPD faction, Carsten Schneider, has accused the CDU of only wanting to stand still after the election. "Armin Laschet and Ralph Brinkhaus have once again confirmed what the CDU's plan is: just do nothing," Schneider told the dpa news agency. He was referring to a statement by Union parliamentary group leader Brinkhaus, who had said on the ARD broadcast "hard but fair" that the Union wanted to "just let it do it" after the election. The state has recently intervened too strongly in private and economic life. For the time being, there shouldn't be any new burdens such as "new bureaucracy, such as laws for mobile working and other laws".
Schneider emphasized: "But I cannot build economic growth or strengthen social cohesion on the principle of hope." One can only shape things with concrete policy - for example to stabilize jobs with short-time work benefits or the child bonus.
"Germany cannot afford to stand still," said Schneider.
"The Union parties are burned out and should therefore better join the opposition."
