Brazilian Health Minister Marcelo Queiroga is currently on a business trip with President Jair Bolsonaro in New York.
There he has now tested positive for the corona virus.
Queiroga wrote on Twitter on Tuesday that he will remain in quarantine in the United States.
According to an official statement, the 55-year-old was vaccinated against Corona and is "doing well".
According to Brazilian media reports, Queiroga is the second member of the Brazilian delegation in New York to have a positive result of a corona test.
According to the presidency's press office, which the news portal "G1" referred to, the tests were negative for other members.
Bolsonaro didn't get vaccinated
The right-wing populist Bolsonaro played down the corona virus from the start and repeatedly speaks out against the use of masks and other containment measures.
On Tuesday, at the start of the UN general debate in New York, he caused astonishment with statements about his approach to the pandemic.
For example, Bolsonaro praised the preventive use of drugs whose effectiveness against the coronavirus has not been proven.
The right-wing head of state has emphasized several times that he has not yet been vaccinated against Corona.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio sent a message to Bolsonaro saying, "You have to get vaccinated if you want to come here."
At the UN, the “honor system” applies: anyone entering the United Nations building in New York confirms that they have not tested positive in the ten days before.
Queiroga tweeted photos in the past few days, including with Bolsonaro, his wife Michele and representatives of investment funds.
He had also attended a meeting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.
