Weßling - The three musicians from the Graham Waterhouse Trio with Nino Gurevich (piano), Julius Ockert (clarinet) and Graham Waterhouse (cello) come from the Munich area and share the enthusiasm for chamber music. The program offers a wide range of styles, with works from the classical, romantic and contemporary eras. The concert will take place on Friday, October 8th, at 7.30 p.m. in the Pfarrstadel Weßling.
The sophisticated set of variations from Ludwig van Beethoven's Gassenhauer Trio (1797) is based on a popular melody by the Viennese opera composer, Joseph Weigl. Max Bruch wrote his fantasy pieces for his son Max Felix, who was an excellent clarinetist, and contemporaries praised his playing for its “pure, slag-free tone and phrasing”.
Graham Waterhouse's Four Esques are short pieces with strong characters.
Concentricites an invented word, is divided into five strongly contrasting sentences, including "Birds of Prey", "Pagodas", "Oscillations", each of which animate "concentric" movements in one way or another.
The work was composed for a world premiere in Munich's Gasteig in 2019.
In 1919 Igor Stravinsky dedicated Three Pieces for clarinet solo to his patron Werner Reinhart, who was himself a clarinetist.
Three aspects are highlighted: the singing in the lower position of the clarinet (No. 1), the nervous arabesque (No. 2) and the agile dancing (No. 3).
