The Ministry of Health has purchased a new drug called Regeneron designed to treat mild corona patients to prevent the disease from getting worse.

However, because there is a limited purchase, the ministry forwarded to the health funds general recommendations regarding the contraindications and medical conditions for the provision of regeneron treatment.

According to the guidelines, people who are not vaccinated are entitled to the drug before vaccinated patients because their risk is greater.

The new priority model, according to which the HMOs will be treated, ranks transparently and objectively according to the points of those with the highest medical chance of deteriorating to a serious illness based on a calculation of medical risk factors, previous hospitalizations, corona vaccination, patient age and more.

This is in accordance with the disease state in the Delta strain and the effects of the vaccine.

This is how it works

According to the model, a patient "accumulates" eight points - he has a 22% -25% risk of developing a serious illness.

Accordingly, a patient who has accumulated seven points - has a 18% -20% risk of developing a serious illness.

Also, a person who has not been vaccinated against corona is defined according to the model as having five points - and thus he is given priority over the other patients.

In contrast, a patient aged 70 and over receives only two points - and for every hospitalization he has undergone in the last three years he receives an additional point.

However, people suffering from kidney disease, diabetes, neurological disease or liver disease - are entitled to only one point.

So are vaccine-suppressed people like AIDS patients and organ transplant recipients who will receive only one point for their disease.

Treatment is given by infusion in the patient's home.

Regeneron treatment is given by infusion and will be given in the patient's home by a team of doctor and nurse who will arrive at the home in a mobile with full protection with the medical equipment required to provide the treatment.

Dr. Miri Mizrahi Reuveni, head of the health division at Maccabi Health Fund, explained that this is a treatment with significant potential to prevent the disease from getting worse. "The treatment is suitable for those with a particularly high risk in order to prevent the patient from deteriorating.

"Cooperation with the hospitals is very important and in the future it will expand to the whole country," she said.
