For a few weeks now, groups of visitors have been able to embark on a journey through time through the historical polling.
The adventure tours around the monastery are organized by a “Pollinger with body and soul” - meaning “Maria vom Oberschaffler” alias Maria Hager.

- Where was the spa of the Pollingen monks once? Where were the Pollingen vineyards? And what did Father Ollegarius do with an isinglass? This is only a small selection of questions to which you will get an answer as part of the adventure tours - namely from “Maria vom Oberschaffler”. From whom please? Behind the pseudonym is a well-known personality in Polling: Maria Hager is active in many associations, and she is the daughter of the former mayor Dominikus Weiß, who died in 2016. But how does Hager relate to the trade? Quite simply: your ancestors used to run a barrel making business in Polling. The family lived in the monastery village since 1640, and in the garb of this era Hager leads her visitors around the monastery grounds. The journey through time takes around an hour and a half: "It shouldn't be more than that,otherwise the attention will decrease, ”says Hager.
Bought old dentist chairs
The “senior manager” does not give presentations with heavy content, but tries to tell Polling's history in an exciting and vivid manner: “I just start chatting,” explains Hager. She has no fear of contact: “I am an open person and have no problem speaking in front of people.” And of course she is very interested in history. “I have a genetic predisposition,” Hager says with a smile. As a small child, she was allowed to ride in her father's classic cars. Mostly they went to flea markets, where everything from old cowbells to old dentist chairs was bought. The historical exhibits have been on display in the “Minis Raritätenstadl” in Hofmarkstrasse since 2003. During her father's lifetime, Hager was already helping out on guided tours.So the idea of the village journey through time was no coincidence.
The “Oberschafflerin” has been organizing her adventure tours for a long time in a private setting.
And after the tours in the community's holiday program were well received, the demand skyrocketed: “The parents called me because the children were so enthusiastic and they wanted a tour too,” reports Hager.
And so the time travel now has an official framework.
"Unimportant Weilheim"
Hager is the mother of five sons and, as a trained housekeeper, runs a party service business. In addition, there is the voluntary commitment, for example in the horticultural association or motorsport club. There isn't much time left for other activities. But the tour through the historic polling is an affair of the heart for the 52-year-old. She describes herself as “Pollinger with body and soul” - “because it's just a great place”. She wants to convey to her groups of visitors what heyday the monastery once experienced - especially in the scientific sector: "The monks were incredibly well connected - with Euler, Leibniz and Newton, among others," says Hager: "That was gigantic." So it wasn't polling only a cultural, but also a spiritual and scientific center: "People should knowhow important polling was back then - and how unimportant Weilheim ”, emphasizes the“ senior manager ”. The postscript is done in a hushed voice, but with a broad grin on his face - and historical evidence.
According to the annals, Wilhelm-Conrad Röntgen had to cycle from Weilheim to Polling at the beginning of the 20th century to make a phone call. At that time there was only a connection in the monastery village. “And we had electricity in the village 20 years before Weilheim,” mocked Hager. And so much can be revealed in advance: The monks cured in Bad Sulz at the foot of the Hohen Peißenberg, the Pollingen vineyards were not in the monastery village due to the weather, but in South Tyrol - and the summer beer was clarified and with the isinglass, a fish skin from the sturgeon made drinkable again.
