Today, French Defense Minister Florence Parly denounced the behavior of the United States in the issue of the Australian submarine deal, considering it "new evidence of the absence of any political dialogue within NATO."
And the media quoted Parly as saying during a speech she delivered in the French Senate today that “NATO countries agreed to review its strategic concept against the background of the recent crisis with the United States, Australia and Britain,” considering that “the alliance does not mean that one is a hostage to the interests of another.”
Parly explained that in recent months, NATO witnessed "concrete turmoil," referring in this context to the "adventures" of the Turkish regime in the Mediterranean and the accelerated and uncoordinated withdrawal of the alliance's forces from Afghanistan, pointing out that this withdrawal brought "sad consequences."
In a clear criticism of US policy, Parly indicated that the primary goal of NATO "is not to confront China, but to protect Europe and ensure security on both sides of the Atlantic," expressing Paris' intention to remind the United States of that.
"In these circumstances, the Allies decided, at the initiative of France and Germany, to start a review of the strategic NATO concept, and this work will allow us to clarify the strategic concept in light of the upcoming NATO Summit in Madrid and coordinate it with the European Union's Strategic Compass Road Map and the work started by the Europeans with the aim of strengthening the European defense program," she added. .
