Arik Alfasi passed away at the age of 49 after a battle with corona disease • On the basketball coach who gradually ascended, put the city of Netanya on the basketball map and reached the Israeli national team

The late Eric Alfasi returned from abroad in early August with a fear of pneumonia.

He went to Eilat for a short vacation and there he felt bad.

After the oxygen generator did not do well with his lungs, he was taken to Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv and has been anesthetized and respirated since September 2.

Arik Alfasi, 49, was born in Netanya.

He led the club's youth team with Raviv Lemond to win the state cup.

In his youth, he coached Shai Saglovitch, who over the years will become his loyal assistant and close friend.

In 2006, Alfasi won the national championship with Netanya and also the high school championship for high school with Sharett Netanya High School.

In 2008, he began his career as Ofer Berkowitz's assistant coach in Ashkelon in the Premier League and replaced him after three rounds.

During the season, Alfasi was replaced by Adi Azulai and returned home to Netanya.

He led Elitzur Netanya to the Premier League, and in 2010 was elected coach of the season after leading Netanya to a great debut season with promotion to the Final Four.

In 2011, Alfasi led Netanya to the cup final in which they were defeated by Maccabi Tel Aviv 106: 70.

His success in Netanya promoted him to the position of assistant coach of the Israeli national team, and together with Oded Katash served as assistants to Arik Shibek.

Through the team, Alfasi also returned to the position of head coach in Ashkelon, but he failed to lead his team to the Final Four after a 0: 2 advantage in the quarterfinal series over Maccabi Rishon LeZion.

Alfasi relegated with Ashdod in 2014, which eventually remained in the league due to the disintegration of Barak Netanya, but he returned big in three good seasons with Nahariya when the highlight was the fascinating playoff quarterfinal series in 2017 when he led 0: 2 over Jerusalem with Studmeier .

A boundary whistle in game number 4 led to a draw, and Jerusalem won the series and won the championship.

"Do you understand? I should have been with the plate tonight," he told me in the arena at the end of the Jerusalem championship game against Maccabi Haifa.

He returned to Nahariya to save it from decline in 2019 and due to the corona was unable to lead Eilat.

He started the last season at home, but received an application from Ness Ziona last April.

Bard Greenberg defeated Maccabi Rishon LeZion and remained in office until he won the European Cup and Alfasi went down to Ashkelon, but his team failed in the aliyah struggles against Maccabi Netanya.
