The plans caused confusion in the local council.

Oberschleißheim

- A plan by Olympiapark München GmbH has caused confusion in the Schleissheim municipal council. Parts of the regatta facility on Dachauer Straße are to be secured with a fence. Local councils fear for free access for those seeking relaxation, especially to boat houses and jetties. Athletes would be disabled. As it turned out at the meeting of the building committee, the effects of the requested renovation measures are likely to be far less dramatic.

"At events, the fences should be used to direct the flow of visitors," said building authority chief Christiane Kmoch: "That's all."

"Then they disappear again." At a suitable point in the northeastern part of the facility, foundations are to be set in the area of several boat halls.

The foundations remain;

the fences are only saddled up when necessary.

"The sense of the project does not make sense to me."

Casimir Katz (FDP), on the other hand, had assumed that the boat jetties, which are primarily frequented by day trippers and those seeking relaxation, should be separated for visitors.

"The point of the project does not make sense to me." The Third Mayor called the fence "a hideousness".

For reasons of monument protection, it is a "crime" to disguise the site with such an unsightly chain link fence.

SPD spokesman Florian Spirkl wanted to make sure that users of the regatta facility would not be hindered by the fence: "If recreational athletes first had to cross the parking lot at the back, that wouldn't be so nice."

The foundations for the fence are to be set behind the northern boat halls over a length of 37 meters.

A further 61.50 meters of galvanized chain link fence are planned in the south-west and south-east of the halls.

The full length of the fence should be a good meter high.

In addition, hot-dip galvanized fences with mesh covering and double-leaf gates that can be dismantled at any time have been requested for the jetties at almost 50 meters.

"It can always be dismantled."

Almost like a prayer wheel, the building authority manager Kmoch had to repeat that the fence is only used for a limited period of time.

In the end, she managed to pacify the debate.

Except for Casimir Katz, the building committee approved the fences.

Since the jetties are likely to be refurbished next year, the fences should prove to be useful in two ways.

Ingrid Lindbüchl (Greens) is convinced of that.

“During the renovation work, you definitely don't need it if cyclists are constantly cycling through.” As a merely “temporary story”, the fence is so far in order.

Lindbüchl: "It can always be dismantled."
