The head and members of the Syrian-Armenian Parliamentary Friendship Committee in the People's Assembly stressed the need to strengthen relations between Syria and Armenia in various fields for the interest of the peoples of the two countries.

This came during a visit by the Chairman and members of the Committee today to the Armenian Embassy in Damascus and their meeting with Ambassador Dikran Kevorkian to offer congratulations on the 30th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Armenia.

The head of the committee, Dr. Lucy Ohans Aske Nyan and a number of members stressed the continuation of deepening parliamentary relations between the two countries and the continuation and strengthening of mutual visits.

In turn, Ambassador Kevorkian made it clear that the independence of Armenia in 1991 in a referendum was the choice of the Armenian people "who, throughout the ages, have possessed the elements of an independent people and the right to sovereignty over their historical lands."

Ambassador Kevorkian pointed out that the cooperation between his country and Syria is based on solid foundations of direct transparent dialogue between the leaderships of the two countries and common benefits, indicating that the historical relations between the two countries reached an advanced level following the visit of President Bashar al-Assad to Armenia in 2009 and the visit of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to Syria in 2010. .
