The topics of the scientific program of the conference of the Syrian Society of Otolaryngologists focused on the latest developments in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the head, neck, ear, nose and throat, inflammatory and infectious diseases, malformations, functional disorders, tumors and plastic surgery.

With the participation of doctors from Arab and foreign countries via the Internet, the conference, which kicked off today at the Sheraton Hotel in Damascus, presents 36 lectures, in addition to practical training workshops at Al-Mouwasat University Hospital.

In a statement to the media during the opening of the conference, the Minister of Health, Dr. Hassan Al-Ghobash, drew attention to the scientific activities and events in terms of the continuous need to exchange experiences between medical workers to develop performance and highlight the latest developments in each specialty, which will positively reflect on raising the level of the profession and serving patients despite the challenges facing the health sector. Due to the economic siege imposed on Syria, as well as the spread of the Corona virus.

President of the Syrian Society of Ear, Nose and Throat Doctors, Dr. Naboug Al-Awa, pointed out the Society's constant endeavor to support medical expertise and communicate modern and qualitative information that has been reached by international research, studies and conferences through external scientific participation.

In turn, the Vice President of the Society, Dr. Abdo Ayrout, indicated that the conference activities include a presentation on the latest developments in ear surgery presented by doctors from Egypt, France and Britain via the Internet, in addition to direct workshops on endoscopic surgery in sinus and cosmetic operations, in which about 100 specialized doctors and residents participate.

Dr. Sam Abboud gave a lecture on “subtotal rock excision” in which he explained the methods of snail transplantation for very difficult cases through subtotal rock excision, which is used in cases where complications such as inflammation are expected during or after surgery, and it is a modern medical technique in the world.

Regarding tumors resulting from head trauma, Dr. “Abdul-Majid Youssefan” stated that the traumatic cholesteatoma is the most common that occurs due to trauma to the temporal bone, and it is discovered after several years with a complaint of complex complications, so its diagnosis requires extensive investigations.

It is noteworthy that the conference continues until the 24th of this month and is accompanied by a medical exhibition that includes the latest medical devices and technologies related to ear, nose and throat diseases, head and neck surgery, in addition to the products of a number of pharmaceutical companies.
