Time to look ahead

Heidi Körner wants to look into the future. After the celebration of 100 years of the Breitbrunn Horticultural Association and many looks back, the chairwoman thinks it is time to look ahead. “Our association has changed a lot since 2008 when the Dreckspatzengruppe was founded, also in terms of the structure of its members. After the celebration of 100 years of the Breitbrunn Horticultural Association and many looks back, the chairwoman thinks it is time to look ahead.

“Our association has changed a lot since 2008 when the Dreckspatzengruppe was founded, also in terms of the structure of its members.

We now have more than 30 young families in the association who design their gardens completely differently.

Breitbrunn

- The floral decorations on the house are no longer the main attraction.

The young members are aware of the ecological interactions between animals and plants in the garden, and they also want to implement this in the garden, "said Heidi Körner on the occasion of the annual meeting, to which many members came to the multi-purpose hall in Breitbrunn after a long break from Corona meetings.

The association currently has 145 members, 15 of whom are children, to the delight of the chairperson. Petra Hautmann organizes this young generation of gardeners, and the retired teacher Körner is happy to help with group lessons. The natural gardens have also become a matter close to the heart of the lively chairman. A certifier herself, she is pleased that four plaques were awarded in 2020 and three this year (we reported) - in Breitbrunn alone. Nina Koch is also on the right track. From spring 2020 to this autumn, the winner of the flower arrangement redesigned her previously bare lawn garden into a small showcase garden with more and more perennials and small fruit trees. "It was a pleasure for me to exchange experiences again and again at the garden fence." Heidi Körner's conclusion:"At the Breitbrunn Horticultural Association, the future of the association was accelerated rapidly in the corona years, away from weedkillers to natural gardening without chemical fertilizers."

Guests of honor were Agnes Stöger and the former district chairwoman Anna Neppel. Both had presents for the 100th anniversary and the 70th birthday of the local chairman - 100 euros from the regional association and a bell so that Heidi Körner, who likes to wear her heart on her tongue, probably doesn't hang on the big bell anymore. There are more honored ones. Sr. Franziska, Regina Lechner and Robert Raatz received the golden needle. The Silver Needle was given to Michael Polomski, Hans Grimmer and Horst Breitenberger. Ulrike Jaklin received an honorary award for her art garden.
