The TV presenter Jean Pütz was critical of the electric car and the Greens in an interview and accused this of populism.

Cologne - As the moderator of “Hobbythek”, for decades it brought topics from the field of science into everyday living in the Federal Republic of Germany and made a name for itself throughout Germany.

On Tuesday, Jean Pütz turned 85 and, despite his age, has probably lost none of his liveliness.

The science journalist gave

an interview to

the

world

shortly before his birthday

and above all expressed his displeasure with the electric car and the politics of the Greens.

TV legend Jean Pütz on the end of the combustion engine - "bumbling and populist"

"We are experiencing an unspeakable focus on electromobility," says the 85-year-old with a view to the current federal election campaign.

A development that Pütz is "not at all happy about".

The science journalist quickly found an enemy: the exit from the combustion engine.

“The internal combustion engines in private cars, on the other hand, only contribute a maximum of six percent to CO2 emissions.

Calling for the end of internal combustion engines is bungling and populist.

It leads to a dead end, ”is his judgment.

Jean Pütz also hands out against the Greens - "wishful thinking alone is not enough"

Pütz understands the central problem of the electric car as the electricity consumption that is necessary to guarantee a nationwide charging infrastructure in Germany.

“Today we import around 80 percent of our primary energy.

A Germany independent of energy imports is an illusion.

If only half of today's electric cars were connected to the power grid at the same time, it would collapse, ”says the 85-year-old.

On this occasion, Pütz insists on handing out against the Greens, where he apparently sees the causes of this “bungling” policy: “My impression is that Annalena Baerbock does not know the difference between primary energy and electrical energy.

Wishful thinking alone is not enough, ”the science journalist criticizes the Greens' candidate for chancellor.

Electromobility: Moderator Pütz advocates synthetic fuels

Nevertheless, Pütz predicts that the electric motor will play an important role in the future of the mobility revolution.

“Nothing speaks against equipping cars with electric motors.

They are very efficient.

But the electricity for these engines should be generated on board with internal combustion engines from synthetic fuels, ”explains the 85-year-old.

This type of drive would be CO2-neutral and cheaper, argues Pütz.

In the current election campaign for the 2021 federal election, there is a major focus on the mobility transition and the promotion of electric cars. Among other things, the Greens want combustion engines to be no longer permitted in Germany from 2030 onwards. Because of the incineration phase out, the German Environmental Aid filed a lawsuit against the car manufacturers BMW and Mercedes on Tuesday.
