The US has lifted entry restrictions for vaccinated travelers from the European Union and the UK.
From November, vaccinated persons will be able to return to the USA.
The "Financial Times", the website "Politico" and the broadcaster CNN had previously reported on it.
Fully vaccinated foreigners should be allowed to re-enter from "early November", said the Corona coordinator of the White House, Jeffrey Zients, on Monday.
In March 2020, the USA imposed entry bans for citizens from EU countries and Great Britain, among others, because of the pandemic.
The extensive entry ban was imposed by the then US President Donald Trump at the beginning of the corona pandemic in early 2020 and has so far been maintained by his successor Joe Biden.
Relief in the flight and travel industries
From the travel industry, among others, a relaxation has long been called for, at least for travelers vaccinated against the coronavirus.
For Lufthansa, too, transatlantic flights between Europe and the USA are an important part of the business.
The EU had already asked the member states in the summer to gradually lift restrictions on travelers from the USA and several other countries.
Germany then allowed entries from the USA, among others, "for all permissible purposes of residence, including tourism".
However, the US government stuck to the restrictions in July, citing the more contagious Delta variant.
The previous travel restrictions in the USA stated that only US citizens and holders of a green card as well as their family members are allowed to enter the USA if they have been in the EU or Great Britain in the past 14 days.
All others need special permission.
From November this will no longer be necessary.
