For months, the district committee (BA) Sendling-Westpark has been struggling to reduce bicycle traffic in the Westpark.

Now the citizens' committee has agreed to sign a north and a south route around the park.

Coming from the west, the northern route initially runs north along the A96 over the Rubihornweg, crosses the autobahn at Lermooser Weg and continues over the Alfred-Ludwig-Weg through the underpass at Garmischer Strasse.

From there, however, it goes back into the Westpark and on its way west to Hansastraße.

The southern route takes you via Raidinger and Krüner Straße to Reulandstraße, from there via Preßburger Straße to Hinterbärenbadstraße and finally via Zillertal and Ortlerstraße to Hansastraße, from where cyclists can continue their journey towards the city center.

Dangerous collisions between cyclists and pedestrians should be prevented

The aim of this measure adopted at the latest BA meeting is to prevent dangerous collisions between cyclists and pedestrians on the main paths in Westpark, which are popular with both groups. In a press release in March, the citizens' representatives asked cyclists to ride carefully and avoid the park if possible. In addition, it was decided to put up pictograms and signs calling for mutual consideration. In the meantime, the CSU even brought into play the idea of banning cyclists completely from the main routes on weekends and at rush hours in the morning and evening, but this was rejected by the other parliamentary groups. An earlier proposal by the Greens, which envisaged a bicycle route across Ehrwalder Strasse, was equally unsuccessful.

The north route still runs partially through the park, which doesn't make everyone happy

CSU spokesman Alfred Nagel is also fundamentally in favor of a north and south route around the West Park.

However, he is not happy with the fact that the northern route that has now been decided still partly runs through the park.

Nagel's idea to include the cycle path along Garmischer Strasse towards the north, however, did not prevail.
