The areas planted with the cotton crop in the current season amounted to 29,000 hectares distributed over the governorates that are famous for cotton cultivation, including Aleppo, Al-Hasakah, Deir ez-Zor, Raqqa, Al-Ghab and Qamishli areas.
The director of the Cotton Office, Engineer Walid Razzouk, said in a statement to SANA reporter in Aleppo that the crop is in good condition and does not suffer from any insect diseases, due to the continuous follow-up and supervision of the cultivated fields by engineers and technicians in the extension units, and the farmers’ commitment to the dates of planting, watering and fertilizing, with the exception of the Al-Ghab area, in which some of its fields have been controlled. Diseases and insect infestations.
Razzouk pointed out that the Ministry of Agriculture raised this year the price of one kilogram of cotton from 1,500 to 2,500 pounds, which left a positive impression on farmers with the aim of encouraging them to increase the cultivated areas for the next season and meet the country's needs for the crop.
Razzouk referred to the ongoing preparation for the establishment of the Cotton Festival in its fifty-eighth session, in which the winning farmers are honored at the country level with the best production, in addition to the artistic activities of the Mobile Guidance Theater Troupe to educate farmers about the best methods of cultivation and care for the crop.
SANA’s camera toured a number of fields distinguished by the cultivation of cotton in the Al-Safira area in the southeastern countryside of Aleppo, where the farmer, Muhammad Musa Al-Khatib, explained that he planted this year an area of 25 dunums with the cotton crop. Last year, farmers are encouraged to continue planting the crop.
The farmer, Barakat Al-Hamdi, said that he planted an area of 5 dunums of cotton, and the condition of the crop was good, as he produced from it during the first harvest 12 shell cotton, calling on the concerned authorities to provide the fuel oil to irrigate the crop on time, while the farmer Saleh Clak pointed out that he planted two and a half hectares of the cotton crop and adhered to the instructions of the agricultural engineers A large production is expected.
In turn, the engineer Junaid Al-Saleh from the Department of Agriculture in Al-Safira area explained that the areas planted in Al-Safira with the cotton crop for this year amount to 200 hectares. .
