A Berliner triggered a large-scale police operation in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

The 38-year-old fired several shots from a roof terrace.

  • Suddenly gunshots are fired: moment of shock for the residents of the main street in Garmisch-Partenkirchen.

  • Berliner (38) just wanted to try out his new alarm gun.

  • Restaurant owners have to wait at the police barrier and worry about their pizza maker.

Garmisch-Partenkirchen

- Suddenly, shots are fired.

Multiple at once.

Where do they come from?

The man doesn't know.

When ammunition shells fall past his window onto the sidewalk, however, he realizes that the shooter is in the immediate vicinity.

“Terrifying,” says the Garmisch-Partenkirchner, who doesn't want to read his name in the newspaper.

The police are quickly on site late Wednesday afternoon.

With a really large number.

“In full gear, with machine guns,” is how the resident describes the scenario.

For the officers, who were alerted around 4:45 p.m., the incident is anything but commonplace.

At first it was only certain that shooting would take place in the Hauptstraße area, specifically between Hindenburgstraße and Kankerweg.

"It was difficult to narrow that down at first," explains Markus Stückl, spokesman for the local inspection.

“That's why our colleagues cordoned off a relatively large area.” This enabled them to approach the possible perpetrator and, above all, to clarify what was going on.

As it turned out, a Berliner had fired his newly acquired alarm pistol several times on his roof terrace.

"He did not endanger or threaten anyone," say the police.

The 38-year-old apparently just wanted to try out his new weapon - but without the appropriate permission.

For this he is now waiting for an advertisement.

In addition, according to Stückl, it is checked whether the Berliner also has to pay for the deployment costs.

They were not insignificant: “Because of his questionable behavior, he tied 14 strips.” And he ensured that the residents and business people in this area were not allowed to leave their houses and shops for a good hour, or could not reach them.

This also affected the owners of the Pizzeria Antica Roma.

“We wanted to go to our restaurant around 5.15 p.m., but were stopped by the police,” says the landlord's wife.

Why, initially there was no information.

She reached the pizza maker, who was already on site, by mobile phone and urged him to “stay inside, keep the door closed and, above all, not turn on the lights”.

It was an unusual situation for her and her husband, one that caused "a bit of a quarrel".

“One wonders which film did we end up in.” The couple was finally able to open the restaurant at 6.30pm, one hour late.

"Wouldn't have needed it at all, we only had four guests the whole evening," says the woman.

Probably “nobody dared to go outside”.

Wolfgang Mühldorfer, director of the St. Irmengard Realschule, only heard marginally what was happening in front of the school complex.

“At that time there was practically no one in the house.” He himself sat in his office until 7.30 p.m., but with the flashing light and siren, he thought it was more of an accident.

Mühldorfer only found out later that a man had shot at one of the houses opposite.

Anyone over the age of 18 can buy a blank gun

By the way, anyone who is of legal age can buy a blank gun.

However, anyone who wants to use the weapon outside of their own home and business premises or their own pacified property requires an official permit.

The so-called small gun license, which the District Office can issue, is required.

"For this, the colleagues at the Federal Central Register, the public prosecutor's office, the Office for the Protection of the Constitution, the municipality and the police ask," says Stephan Scharf, spokesman for the authorities, explaining the procedure.

Only when all of this fits and it has also been clarified that the weapon is safely stored, the said permit is granted.

The Berliner could not show this.
