Again: Munich cult tavern is about to end

The fir garden and the associated beer garden have been an integral part of Sendling's neighborhood life for years.

This is the second time within a few years that the inn is about to end.

Munich - The community of owners of the neighboring property at Sendlinger * Maronstraße 9-11 has been planning to improve the fire protection measures for a long time - more precisely, the construction of a second fire brigade access to the houses in question.

However, this project has a dramatic impact on the adjacent beer garden.

A third of the beer garden seats would be lost due to the fire brigade access.

Because: An asphalt drive through would cut off a large part of the terrace, around a third of the available space would be lost.

In the beer garden itself, one or two old chestnut trees are also to be felled, "a great loss", as the Federal Nature Conservation Association explains in a letter to the responsible district committee (BA).

The tavern on Pfeuferstraße, back then still the “spectacle”, was about to end

In 2014, the small beer garden on Pfeuferstraße was in the headlines. At that time, the owner wanted to turn the inn, at that time the “Spectacle”, into a residential building and lay the underground car park entrance through the beer garden. The “Tannengarten” initiative, which back then was able to successfully maintain the inn, has now approached the Sendlinger BA with the new problem.

The tenor of the local politicians around the chairman Markus Lutz (SPD) could hardly have been clearer: "It is our wish to preserve the beer garden and thus to strive for an alternative solution." An alternative that preserves the beer garden and the surrounding nature in its current state , it really does exist: During a site inspection by politicians, owners and the fire brigade in July, approaching via a neighboring site was identified as the "simplest and most practicable solution".

According to a letter that was discussed in the plenary, the emergency services could "come from Spitzwegstrasse, straight between the beer garden and the extension of the restaurant (" Salettl ") to the rear of the property at Maronstrasse 9-11."

All that is missing to solve the problem is a gate - and the consent of the property owner

The only prerequisites for this: A suitable gate would have to be built into an existing fence for a passage.

And: The owner of the property in question, who also owns the beer garden area, would have to give his consent to the proposal.

"If this solution - for whatever reasons - cannot be implemented, our beer garden is likely to be ruined," the letter concludes clearly. There are also supporters of the cause among the owners. This small group is gaining momentum and is happy about the positive feedback from local politicians, said a representative at the meeting. "From the political side, headwinds are to be expected," assured Michael Kaiser (CSU), thus underscoring the BA's willingness to act, which was met with great approval in the plenum.

Markus Grenzdörffer, the host of the “Tannengarten”, did not want to comment on the topic, but let it be known upon request that he was very happy about the support.

Due to the effects of the corona pandemic, the pub with beer garden will be closed until January 2022.

When it reopens, it might even be possible to toast the popular retreat.
