Christina Wechsel (39) suffered three hard strokes of fate in one year.

Now she gave her first reading in Hallbergmoos - and impressed the guests.

Hallbergmoos

- She lost two loved ones and barely survived a car accident in the Australian outback.

Part of her leg had to be amputated.

In her book “If you have wings, you don't need legs”, Christina Wechsel tells her story - and describes how she dealt with grief and gained new courage to face life.

She gave her first reading where she spent part of her youth: in Hallbergmoos.

She was accompanied by her co-author Julia Heyne

A tall, radiant young woman recently entered the Emmaus Church: Beate Bodenschatz from the Friends of the Emmaus Church had invited her. “It's my very first reading,” revealed Wechsel. And then at such a place - in the church of her former home: “It's an honor for me.” She was accompanied by the Freising journalist and co-author of her first work, Julia Heyne. Her father, Albert Wechsel, the long-time director of the Mövenpick Hotel, had also come from Bad Wörishofen.

Christina Wechsel had selected four chapters for the reading: “Mourning in order to heal” was the first.

In it, she describes how she dealt with her mother's cancer death.

"Everyone experiences losses and strokes of fate in their lives," she emphasized.

The way in which the author - then 24 - dealt with grief conveys courage and strength to look ahead and make dreams come true.

“What was the architect up there thinking about the accident?” She asked herself

Of course, Wechsel also quarreled with “Mr.

Fate ”and difficult situations after her leg amputation:“ What was the architect up there thinking about the accident? ”But she also draws strength from moments of success.

And her deepest conviction: “You have to accept and accept.

You can't change the past.

But you can learn to accept it and let go.

And you can also forgive so that something new can arise. "

The chapter “A toast to love” traces how she met her husband Ecki at the Oktoberfest - and the first dirndl purchase after the accident. A seamstress had to work twice because Christina Wechsel was emaciated after six months in the hospital and 20 operations. But at some point the dirndl fit - thanks to the tailor “Hildegunde”, who was in the audience.

At the end of the reading, the focus was on the first prosthetic leg that released happiness hormones because it could "stand upright on two legs again".

Further prostheses followed until the “right one” was found.

Why Christina Wechsel rejects a disguised prosthetic leg and prefers a titanium leg is explained by the fact that she wants to show that she has a disability.

She loves her “little black thing”, her titanium leg: “You need courage to accept and love yourself.”
