A play was actually supposed to be staged on Königsplatz today, and the city gave 12,000 euros in tax money for it.

But the three-day event had to be canceled.

The reason: The place is still unplayable because the International Motor Show (IAA) has left deep trenches.

The seven-member group “Raumkollektiv 3” has been rehearsing for the piece “Ku: bik” since May.

After Corona, the free offer should "restore access to culture", says director Deike Wilhelm.

The living space, the confinement in a big city and the resulting expensive space should be staged here in public space.

A topic that affects not only Munich, but also the densely populated Maxvorstadt.

So it's no wonder that the three Maxvorstädter have decided on a venue in their neighborhood.

But the space behind the Glyptothek is like a field.

This not only destroys the ambience, but simply makes the performance impossible.

The artists had planned a performance with a rotating, four-meter-high steel cube as well as acrobatics and dance performances. The ground is now too uneven for that. “It's really tough,” sums up the actress Katja Brenner. Also because for them the meadow behind the Glyptothek is the "heart of Maxvorstadt". This causes displeasure in the district committee (BA). “The city has to set priorities as to how and when it makes public spaces available,” says Florina Vilgertshofer (Greens). Especially since the BA had funded the project with 2100 euros. The cultural department also subsidized the piece with over 9,800 euros. "I just think it's a shame that a theater that was funded by the City of Munich cannot take place even though approval has already been given."

There is no alternative at such short notice, as the Glyptothek should also be part of the staging.

And what happens now?

"To be honest, we are now in a state of shock," says Wilhelm.

The city has shown itself to be cooperative, which is why it hopes to be able to perform the piece next year.
