Police continue to investigate the ship collision at Lung Kwu Chau, Tuen Mun last night (22nd). A wooden boat collided with a speedboat. Two mainland men fell into the sea and were sent to hospital. One of them died.
It is understood that the marine police and other rescue workers searched the sea and found multiple boxes of frozen meat floating in the sea. It is not ruled out that the incident was involved in smuggling at sea. Someone suspected that the frozen meat was smuggled to Shenzhen in the Mainland. The Police District Crime Squad followed up.
In the collision, the two men who fell into the sea were both mainlanders. The deceased was about 60 years old. Another 54-year-old mainland man named Wang was rescued, believed to be the captain of the wooden boat. He was suspected of "endangering the safety of others at sea" and Arrested for "illegal entry".
After preliminary investigations by the police, it is believed that the two entered Hong Kong waters from the mainland in a wooden boat. During the collision, the two of them fell into the sea with the cargo on board a speedboat.
The scene was in the waters northwest of Lung Kwu Chau. After the incident, marine police and firefighters rushed to rescue reports. The Government Flying Service also dispatched helicopters to hover over the waters of Lung Kwu Chau to assist in search and rescue.
According to sources, search and rescue personnel found that the crashed wooden ship was about 12 meters long and capsized in the sea. In addition to the two falling into the sea, there were also more than 10 life jackets and boxes of frozen meat floating on the sea.
At that time, a gray speedboat collided with a wooden boat. There were also two men on board. However, they did not stop after the collision and fled in the direction of the airport by speedboat at high speed.
The incident does not rule out smuggling activities. It is suspected that someone on the wooden boat was planning to smuggle a large amount of frozen meat to Shenzhen. Because the wooden boat and speedboat that collided did not turn on the lights at that time, the environment was dim, and a collision accident occurred.
It is understood that smuggling activities in Lung Kwu Chau are rampant at the scene, and barges or barges carrying frozen meat are moored in nearby waters. Normally, mainland smuggling vessels will gather at the sea border near the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and bordering the mainland. The smugglers should receive it. After the instructions, they will cross the waters of Hong Kong, take frozen meat from the barge near Lung Kwu Chau, and then quickly transport the frozen meat to the border of the mainland within a few minutes, smuggling the frozen meat to Shenzhen and other places.
