A dramatic accident occurred this Thursday morning on Avenue de Longueuil, in the city center of Maisons-Laffitte.
A 77-year-old woman was fatally hit by a truck as she entered the pedestrian crossing in the middle of this avenue where most of the shops are concentrated.
According to the first elements collected, it seems that the driver of the truck, who was parked along the sidewalk, did not see the lady crossing from his cabin.
The emergency services dispatched to the scene tried in vain to resuscitate the victim.
Jacques Myard, the mayor (LR) of Maisons-Laffitte speaks of "horrible" news, especially since he himself knew the victim personally.
“We have to think about solutions,” he announces.
Maybe mirrors.
It has to do with the departmental council (Editor's note: the artery being a departmental road) but we must prevent this kind of thing from reproducing ”.
Avenue de Longueil, the main traffic hotspot in Maisons-Laffitte, sees up to 20,000 vehicles passing through per day.
"There had been no serious accident" for a few years
The elected official notes, however, that in recent years and the establishment of "shelters" for pedestrians in the middle of the avenue, "there had been no serious accident".
The last two date back to the end of 2016: a woman was hit by a truck in November while a pedestrian was mown down a month later by a car whose driver, victim of illness , had lost control.
