Mikdad discusses with the foreign ministers of Vietnam and Cyprus strengthening coordination and cooperation

Dr. Faisal Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, continued his meetings on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, where he met with Poi Thanh Son, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam.

During the meeting, the two ministers discussed prospects for developing economic and political relations between the two sides, especially that this year coincides with the fifty-fifth anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and stressed the need to enhance coordination between them and continue exchanging support in international forums.

The Vietnamese minister expressed his congratulations on the success of the presidential elections in Syria, pointing to his country's desire to participate in the reconstruction and investment in Syria.

In turn, Minister Miqdad thanked Vietnam for its support to Syria during its membership in the Security Council, and expressed Syria's welcome to Vietnam's participation in the reconstruction of what was destroyed by terrorism in Syria.

Minister Mikdad also met with Cypriot Foreign Minister Nikos Christodoulides, where the two ministers affirmed their rejection of any attempts to prejudice the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of the two countries, stressing the historical and geographical ties that unite the two friendly peoples in Syria and Cyprus.

The meeting also touched on ways to enhance diplomatic communication and dialogue between the two countries to serve their common interests.

Minister Miqdad referred to Turkey's continued occupation of parts of the Syrian territories and its support for terrorist groups, while reviewing the disastrous effects of the unilateral coercive measures imposed on the Syrian people.

The two meetings were attended on the Syrian side by Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Syria's Permanent Representative to the United Nations Bassam Sabbagh, Dr. Abdullah Hallaq, Director of the Special Office Department, and Ihab Hamed from the Office of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates.
