Schongau - Despite the existing pick-up and delivery zone: Many parents apparently use the access from the roundabout to Bürgermeister-Lechenbauer-Straße to drop their children off at the school center.

The city now wants to counter this with an access ban.

Before the holidays, these events around the teacher parking lot there turned out to be a dangerous situation, according to the second mayor Daniela Puzzovio in the building committee meeting on Tuesday. For the access from the roundabout in the Bürgermeister-Lechenbauer-Straße, a time-limited entry ban from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. added city architect Sebastian Dietrich.

This procedure had been coordinated in advance with the responsible departments and the Schongau police station. The desired solution was also communicated to the school administrators of the elementary, secondary and middle school as well as the grammar school and welcomed by them, continued Dietrich. By issuing individual authorizations, teachers and school employees are given access during the period of the ban. There will also be exceptions for bicycle and bus traffic. The aim for the implementation of this measure is October 1st, explained the city architect.

The proposal met with approval from the building committee members.

"It is, however, a question of consistent control," said Kornelia Funke (CSU).

However, this is only shared to a limited extent in the administration: wherever the police once imposed fines, experience has shown that they are adhered to.

And: "Sanctions can be imposed," explained Dietrich.

Concern that those who come from the west of Schongau may use the pick-up and delivery zone, but then turn left to come back, said Nina Konstantin (ALS).

"Or they use the garden path," she said.

Dietrich explained that these drivers should drive back via Altenstadter and Schönlinder Strasse and promoted that the children should be sent to school by bike or on foot.
