The city of Schongau will receive 624,000 euros from the Free State's “Inner Cities Revitalize” fund; four projects are intended to bring more people to the city.

Now the city council was already dealing with a few small details.

Schongau -

The city applied for four projects in May. At the top of the list is the renovation of the sun moat, where the entire city wall area is to follow in the long term. Point two is the renting of buildings for start-up companies in order to create common offices and workspaces and at the same time to eliminate vacancies. Furthermore, it is about a bundle of ideas that fall under the keyword "winter revitalization" of Marienplatz. Project component four includes a tactile model of the old town, a play station for children and a new portal to the serenade courtyard. Estimated cost: around 76,000 euros. City architect Sebastian Dietrich summarized the current status of the last-mentioned project module at the latest meeting of the city council and obtained the implementation decision from the committee.

A tactile model for the blind is intended to break down barriers

The tactile model is intended to break down barriers for blind visitors to the city.

It could be included as a station in the city tour and set up near the Schongau parish church. "I am very happy that this is being implemented," said Kornelia Funke (CSU).

As a city guide, she expects a lot from the tactile model.

“It's another point of attraction for adults and children,” she said of her experiences in other cities. Landsberg has also had a tactile model for years.

Marianne Porsche-Rohrer is on board as a disability officer.

Her statement is still pending, she has already made contact with the Bavarian Association of the Blind.

Your assessment will be incorporated into the planning, said Mayor Sluyterman.

Anyway, a greater coordination is necessary for the tactile model, so Dietrich, because it is a work of art and you need drafts.

"It has to be put out to tender in a complex manner and will probably only be implemented in the coming year," Dietrich said.

Telescope planned for children

Among other things, a telescope is to be set up for children, but this has yet to be coordinated with the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments.

“A kind of mascot is introduced with which the children can identify again and again on the city tour,” Dietrich revealed a few details.

It should go quickly with the access to the Heiliggeist portal, an image of the portal to St. Anne's Church, as Dietrich quoted the architect Benedikt Sunder-Plassmann. He had already presented the project to the city council in November last year - at that time it was still in the overall package with a 50-meter-long balcony on the city wall not far from the mint building. This should be a solution to bypass the funeral hall on the outside so that the entire battlement of the city wall between the north and the hospital garden can be experienced. Only the small part of the new access to the Heiliggeist-Garten was planned to be implemented immediately - also for financial reasons - everything else was postponed. The new portal, which provides a - small - view of glass panes clad with perforated sheet metal, is intended to better integrate the serenade courtyard into the urban space, the inner wing of the door should even be made entirely of glass.

The portal is “a quote” from the gate to St. Anna's Church

Funke also praised the plans of the portal, "This is an attractive and delightful access to the hospital garden and also an upgrade for the city wall." This part of the project is now to be put out to tender immediately.

Dietrich is hoping for a realization this autumn or winter, after the portal will also serve as access to the barrier-free apartments in the Heiliggeistspital building, which will soon be ready for occupancy.
