As part of Heritage Days, the town hall of Moissy-Cramayel organized a treasure hunt through the city where had been placed

The inhabitants of Moissy-Cramayel surely noticed them during the last weekend.

Sixteen blue signs were hung under certain street signs across the city.

They all bore the name of a famous French woman.

During Heritage Days, Moisséens were invited to participate in a rally to find these signs using a map provided by the town hall.

They then had to indicate in a booklet the profession of the personality in question: lots of gifts were to be won for the fastest.

"Highlighting matrimonial heritage"

The idea emerged from the brain of Elisabeth Loyant, in charge of women's rights, equality and the fight against discrimination within the town hall.

"I wanted us to highlight matrimonial heritage to rebalance the collective unconscious and I noticed that there was only one street bearing the name of a woman (Olympe de Gouges) in the town" , she explains.

She therefore chose sixteen female personalities "who marked their time" and tried to match them with male counterparts: Simone de Beauvoir rubbed shoulders with Jean Jaurès, Anatole France inherited from Marguerite Yourcenar and Gisèle Halimi mingled with Condorcet.

Among the 16 female personalities selected, some were already well known to rally participants such as Simone Veil.

A harvester by birth, Émilie took part in the rally with her three young children for more than two hours.

“It was playful and fun for them, especially since some signs were a little hidden,” recalls the mother of the family.

Stéphane also took part in the family treasure hunt, accompanied by his wife and their two children, who recognized some eminent women like Marie Curie or Simone Veil.

“We were able to do research on the different women we met,” he explains.

Children discover inspiring female figures and strengthen their culture.

For us who have always lived here, it allows us to rediscover the city: we combine the useful with the pleasant.

"

Female street names will multiply

The operation of the city will not remain without result.

“The theme of the days of matrimony will be repeated next year but in a different form,” said Élisabeth Loyant on the sidelines of the awards ceremony on Sunday afternoon in the lobby of the La Rotonde cinema.

When one of the participants in the rally asks if the streets are going to be renamed in homage to women, Christophe Soyer, municipal councilor in charge of equality between women and men replies: “It is in the works, we are working on it for 2022. . "

A place in the town could be definitively named in homage to Gisèle Halimi in the coming years.

A perspective confirmed by the mayor herself, Line Magne (PS), in office since 2014. “We recently made an inventory and identified a dozen places that could bear the names of women by the end of the mandate. , be it streets, squares or parks, ”emphasizes the city councilor.

However, the latter wishes to act in small steps and in consultation with the inhabitants.

“Moissy-Cramayel is a city that is evolving a lot and there are more and more new streets and more generally places to baptize but there must be a meaning and that it does not fall out of nowhere, adds she does.

For example, Gisèle Halimi deserves to have a place in her name because of her recent death and the debate around her pantheonization.
