A recent investigation published in the scientific journal PLOS ONE indicates that the builders of the pre-Hispanic city of Teotihuacan extracted rock from other areas to level the soil of the now archaeological zone of Mexico.

It is estimated that the city was built on more than 370,000 square meters of artificial land that was achieved in about 300 years of construction.
