Today (Thursday), President Yitzhak Herzog and his wife Michal hosted the company fighters of Border Patrol fighter Barel Hadaria Shmueli, who was killed on the Gaza border last month, as well as Border Police Commander Amir Cohen.

The president consoled the undercover unit fighters on the death of their friend and said that "you will carry his memory and pass it on from generation to generation and there is a very great consolation in that."

"What you do is very important and you can be very proud of yourself," Herzog said. "It should be the feeling that accompanies you in your mission and in the rest of your life. He will succeed in whatever is imposed on him in order to preserve the country for us. "

Barel Hadaria Shmueli enlisted in March 2019 after completing a pre-military preparatory course in the town of Ashalim, was assigned to the Border Police, and at the end of his training he took an undercover course and joined the southern unit, where he served as a sniper.

He was fatally wounded on August 21 after being shot by a terrorist on the Gaza border, and was pronounced dead at Soroka Hospital in Be'er Sheva on Monday, August 30.
