The Archdiocese of Caracas, in Venezuela, reported this Thursday that the archbishop emeritus of the city, Cardinal Jorge Urosa Savino, who he described as "one of the most influential people in the Venezuelan Catholic Church," died. according to a statement from the entity.
Urosa died due to complications from covid-19, the Archbishop of Mérida and Apostolic Administrator of Caracas, Cardinal Baltazar Porras, reported in the statement.

In a video posted on social media, Porras said that the death of Cardinal Urosa "mourns the Venezuelan church and the universal church."
Urosa, who was 79 years old, was archbishop of Valencia and Caracas, he was also the fifth cardinal in the history of Venezuela, he held the priesthood for 54 years, he was a doctor in Dogmatic Theology and he even participated in the conclave in which the Pope Francis, according to data published by the Archdiocese of Caracas.
