In an interview with CNN, the human rights defender referred to the recent comments of the special prosecutor for the Ayotzinapa case in the sense that the so-called "historical truth" about the disappearance of 43 normalistas from Ayotzinapa - on September 26, 2014 in Iguala, state of Guerrero— was sustained by "illegal acts." Santiago Aguirre also spoke of the need to know what the Army's role was before, during and after the disappearance of the students. Mexico's Secretary of Defense said on January 20 that the Army has collaborated with the authorities in the Ayotzinapa case,but that the institution does not have the powers to investigate these facts.
