On Sunday we will elect a new Bundestag.
We are allowed to vote - this is an achievement that cannot be taken for granted in many countries around the world or where elections are hindered or falsified.
Democracy means that there is the possibility of changing rulers in a peaceful way.
As a rule, a dictator does not get involved and can only be overthrown by force.
That is why a democracy - in spite of all real and alleged shortcomings - is always preferable to a dictatorship.
The counter-drafts to democracy that were tried out in Europe in the past century, communism and fascism / national socialism, both failed to crash.
There are also almost no wars between really democratic states.
The election on Sunday will be exciting because the result is more open than in previous elections.
And the great interest that you have shown in many letters to the editor speaks in favor of a lively voter turnout among our readers.
