A grenade find in an empty house on Döllerfeldweg in Kochel called the police, fire brigade, rescue service and explosives experts from the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) on Thursday morning.

A few hours later, the emergency services were able to give the all-clear.

The Italian mortar shell was not dangerous.

Because both explosives and detonators had already been removed.

Grenade found during demolition work in Kochel: six residents have to leave the house

Shortly before 9 a.m., the excavator driver of a construction company saw the grenade falling while the building was being demolished and alerted the police. "The grenade was apparently in the false ceiling and fell on the ground floor," reports Chief Police Officer Johann Eder. The officers notified the fire brigade, which had 15 men, as well as the rescue service. In addition, the technical special group (TSG) of the LKA was alerted, which mainly defused bombs. In a radius of 100 meters around the grenade find, the emergency services cordoned off, six people had to leave their homes for safety, and other residents were informed.

Then the explosives experts came into action: they X-rayed the mortar shell with a special device.

“They discovered that there was no explosive in the grenade,” reports Johann Eder.

In addition, the detonator had been removed.

Operation ended after four hours because of old grenades in Kochel

The building on Döllerfeldweg has been empty for several years.

It is unclear since when the mortar shell was in the false ceiling and who deposited it there.

Likewise, who disassembled them and removed the explosives.

In the 1990s, refugees from the former Yugoslavia lived in the house.

Finally, the specialists searched the building from above with the help of the turntable ladder from the Kochel fire brigade to ensure that there were no more grenades or the like in the demolition house.

Then the experts took the mortar shell with them.

The mission was over after about four hours.
