2021-09-24T04:00:57.036Z

SURVEY - The metropolis of Bordeaux is one of the most affected in France by this scourge, behind Nantes and Aix-Marseille.

In Bordeaux

The evictions follow one another and the number of squats and slums in Gironde is not decreasing.

Today, nearly 2000 people live in 150 places of this type, almost all located in the metropolis of Bordeaux, against 800 people concerned in 2015. It is the most affected behind those of Nantes and Aix-Marseille-Provence, for a total of 15,000 to 20,000 people housed in squats and slums in France.

To explain this phenomenon, the vice-president of the metropolis of Bordeaux in charge of housing, Jean-Jacques Puyobrau (PS), underlines the

“economic attractiveness”

for the foreign workforce.

The metropolis of Bordeaux is changing, leaving empty or abandoned buildings where people in difficulty take shelter, according to local associations.

Almost 20% of slums are located on land or buildings belonging to the metropolis.

The rest is mostly held by social landlords, then by private companies and finally individuals.
