How far to go to promote renewable energies? In Saucats (Gironde), 20 kilometers from Bordeaux, the subject has puzzled a number of residents since a photovoltaic park project of an unprecedented scale, Horizéo, carried by the Engie and Neoen groups, is in the works. study. Extending over an area of more than 1000 hectares, i.e. the largest photovoltaic park in Europe (it will be nearly four times larger than that of Cestas - 260 hectares - inaugurated in December 2015, south of Bordeaux), it will allow, with a total investment of 1 billion euros, to produce up to 1 gigawatt of electricity and supply 600,000 homes with clean energy. The establishment of Horizéo is planned in the middle of a wooded area: so that the project can see the light of day, more than 1000 hectares of maritime pines will have to be razed… ie, by way of comparison, the equivalent of the Bois de Boulogne (995 hectares) in Paris.
