Israel must stop the Iranian show Israel today

2021-09-24T11:23:31.025Z

The agreement that Tehran is aiming for will not stop the nuclear program, but will only give international legitimacy to the Iranian move.

The UN General Assembly opened this week. For the first time since the outbreak of the corona plague, the rally will be held in the physical presence of the participants. The deliberations of the Assembly are the world's confrontation with the treatment of Corona.

The challenge for Israel and the countries in the region is to make sure that the Iranian nuclear issue receives the attention it deserves.

As those who anticipated the course of events, the Iranians have announced that they intend to resume nuclear talks in the coming weeks.

Iranians must not be allowed to continue to deceive the nations of the world.

During the five years I served at the UN, I saw the Iranian fraud system in action. During the visit of Hassan Rouhani, the former leader of Iran, I happened to sit at a table next to him in one of the UN lounges.

Instead of listening to my interlocutor, I saw live how the Iranian leader, in lip service, convinces world leaders of his "pure" intentions.

Since then, the nuclear program has progressed a lot and the Iranian show continues.

Prime Minister Bennett will appear for the first time on one of the main international stages, the UN General Assembly.

It is his responsibility to continue in the line of former Prime Minister Netanyahu, and to direct the spotlight on the Iranian nuclear threat, which endangers the stability of the region and the entire world. Israel's main message must be strong and clear. Treating the corona plague is important, Which may undermine the delicate stability in the Middle East, and is the subject of the Iranian nuclear issue.

The delicate balance that exists in the Middle East will be disturbed, and not only Israel but also other countries in the region will be in danger if Iran reaches the nuclear capabilities it aspires to.

The nuclear agreement that Iran is targeting will not stop the nuclear program, but will only give international legitimacy to the Iranian move.

In diplomacy, manners are maintained, but positions are not given up.

Israel needs to reveal the truth, and say out loud that it is impossible to sign a perforated agreement and talk at the same time about stopping the Iranian nuclear program.

From my experience in the diplomatic arena, I have learned that many talk about the importance of Israel's security, while making decisions that actually weaken our security.

We must therefore take more seriously the threats of our enemies, than the promises of our allies.

Danny Danon served as Israel's 17th Ambassador to the UN from 2020 to 2015. He serves as Chairman of the World Likud.
