An investigation was opened Thursday, September 23 by the Marseille prosecutor's office on the circumstances of the death of a Marseille metro user on Wednesday during a ticket check, the prosecutor's office announced.

This investigation was opened by the heads of "
willful violence resulting in death without intention of giving it
" and entrusted to the departmental security, said the prosecution in a press release.
The man was "agitated, virulent and violent"
The facts took place late Wednesday morning at the "
Joliette
"
metro station
north of the Old Port of Marseille.
A 37-year-old man tried to evade a ticket check carried out by agents of the Régie des Transports Métropolitains (RTM), Marseille's public transport operator.

The individual, described as agitated, virulent and violent, was brought to the ground and overpowered by the agents of the RTM
", indicated the prosecution specifying that "
the police called in reinforcement
" found that he "
was inert
" as they tried to handcuff him.
Quickly taken care of by the firefighters, the man died despite a long attempt at resuscitation, the same source said.
The first conclusions of the autopsy indicate death by asphyxiation but the cause has not yet been determined.
