In the presence of eighteen foreign ministers, Dr. Faisal Miqdad, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, participated in the first ministerial meeting of the Group of Friends of the Defense of the Charter, which was held in New York today.
In his speech, Minister Miqdad referred to the challenges facing many member states, including Syria, and on top of these challenges are the expanding threat of terrorism backed by United Nations member states, unilateral coercive measures and attempts to external interference in internal affairs, in flagrant violation of the provisions of the Charter of the United Nations and international law. .
During the meeting, the participating ministers stressed that the Charter of the United Nations remains the supreme document at the international level that must be adhered to and defended, especially in light of the violations and exploitation of its provisions by some countries.
The participating ministers adopted a joint political declaration in which they affirmed their determination to continue to work to ensure compliance with the provisions of the Charter, especially in light of the current international relations of unilateral measures, stressing the need for international cooperation and unity in the face of emerging risks, especially Covid 19.
They called on all countries that are committed to the goals and principles of the charter and believe in upholding the values of dialogue, tolerance and solidarity to join this group.
