The chances of a skiing holiday in Austria are very good in the coming winter season 2021/22.

But it won't work without rules.

Last year, a skiing holiday for Germans in Austria was hardly possible: Foreign tourists were, among other things, subject to a ban on accommodation and quarantine requirements, which made a day trip impossible.

In the coming winter season 2021/22, however, things should be completely different: Austria is planning an opening in line with the 3G rule.

However, depending on the capacity utilization of the intensive care beds, tightening is also possible.

Skiing in Austria with the 3G rule on the slopes

The

3G rule

applies to Austria's slopes in the 2021/22 ski season

. That means: Cable car operators are only allowed to transport

those who have been vaccinated, tested and recovered

. In addition, an

FFP2 mask must be

worn

in the ski lifts

. Distance rules and capacity restrictions are no longer applicable this year. A 3G certificate must also be presented in restaurants and hotels.

Due to the

3-step plan set

by the Austrian government, these rules can be tightened if the intensive care beds are used more.

Unvaccinated skiers in particular have to expect restrictions:

Level 1

takes effect from 200 occupied intensive care beds and has therefore been in force since September 15.

Among other things, it stipulates that antigen tests are only valid for 24 hours after acceptance.

As soon as

300 intensive care beds are occupied

antigen tests for self-inspection are no longer accepted in cable cars, restaurants and hotels.

In addition, unvaccinated people are no longer allowed to visit après-ski bars *, as the Austrian Minister of Health Wolfgang Mückenstein has explained.

Not even with a negative test result.

From

level 3

,

i.e.

with an intensive

occupancy rate

of 400 beds,

only negative PCR tests are sufficient as test evidence

.

Should the situation worsen, there is also the possibility that a 2G rule will be introduced in some areas.

Then only those who have been vaccinated and those who have recovered would be allowed.

It is still unclear how the 3G rule should control the cable cars without causing major delays in queuing.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the online sale of lift tickets could be linked to the Corona status.

Skiing in Austria 2021/22: The 3-step plan at a glance

  • Level 1 (from 200 occupied intensive care beds)

: Antigen tests are only valid for 24 hours after the test has been taken.

  • Level 2 (from 300 occupied intensive care beds)

: Antigen tests with self-approval for 3G are no longer valid.

No more visits to après-ski bars for the unvaccinated.

  • Level 3 (from 400 occupied intensive care beds)

: Access only for vaccinated and convalescent patients.

Unvaccinated people need a PCR test.

Expansion of the 2G rule to other areas possible.
