The Münsingen municipal council financially supports the Ammerland water rescue service, which would like to offer courses for beginners and carry out their training in the new inter-communal indoor swimming pool in Geretsried.

Münsing - The Free State repeatedly calls for children to learn to swim. With the “Bavaria swims” campaign, he is now even rewarding every child who takes a swimming course with a 50 euro voucher. Especially in the district with its many lakes and rivers, it is all the more important that all girls and boys can safely stay afloat. The municipal council therefore supports the Ammerland water rescue service, which would like to offer courses for beginners and carry out their training in the new inter-communal indoor swimming pool in Geretsried. With at least 7,300 euros per year - possibly more - the community wants to help the water rescuers.

The four of the board of directors of the water watch presented their concerns to the municipal council in the meeting on Tuesday.

The chairman Alarich von Schlichting reported on the numerous tasks of the 78 volunteers - from the security service in the station on Kapellenweg and swimming courses to the voluntary service "helper on site", who provides first aid in an emergency on the Starnberg lake shore until the rescue services arrive Natural reserve.

Very good offer from Geretsried

"After decades of vagabonding, we need a permanent place for our swimming training with regular times," said von Schlichting. So far, the Ammerlander have booked times in the indoor pools in Starnberg, Penzberg, Ascholding and in the old Geretsrieder Bad. Now they applied for units in the new Geretsried swimming pool - and received “a very good offer”, according to the chairman. The water watch could occupy half of the teaching pool with the children on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. On Wednesdays, active adults could practice on two lanes in the sports pool from 6 to 8 p.m. This could also be used to train young people. The club lives from the fact that offspring come, said von Schlichting.

All three appointments would have cost 20,100 euros in the year.

Since this cannot be achieved for the small club, attempts have been made to save costs.

Thursday was canceled again, no courses should take place during the holidays.

That would add up to 10,300 euros a year.

The association could raise 3000 euros itself.

Some local councils would be willing to add 11,500 instead of 7,300 euros to finance the additional Thursday beginners' course.

Regina Reithardt (Münsing group of voters) and Ursula Scriba (citizens' list) emphasized the need for swimming courses for the children of the lake community.

The summer courses in Lake Starnberg, after which Professor Dr.

Matthias Richter-Turtur (Greens) asked, would still take place, said von Schlichting.

The technical director of the water rescue service, Michael Döhla, was overwhelmed by the support from the council.

"If that is the case, we will check again whether we can bring together enough coaches for both days," he said.

The municipal council decided unanimously to stop the corresponding funds in the 2022 budget.
