The Russian Federation Council stressed that the inclusion of Russian officials in the list of new US sanctions by the US Congress is a "bad and absurd" diplomatic measure.
"It is diplomatic bad taste to include senior officials from another country on the sanctions list," TASS news agency quoted the head of the council's international affairs committee, Konstantin Kosachev, as saying today.
Kosachev explained that this proposal is considered "ridiculous" because it coincides with US President Joe Biden's call for the countries of the world to work together to solve the main problems facing the international community.
Russia had warned the United States against taking an uncalculated step in connection with a bill to impose sanctions against Russian officials.
The US House of Representatives Rules and Rules Committee approved earlier a bill that recommends imposing sanctions on 35 Russian figures, including officials, businessmen and journalists, that Washington alleges are involved in human rights violations.
