The Special Committee of the United States House of Representatives investigating the onslaught on Capitol Hill on January 6 sent summonses last night (Friday) to four advisers and close associates of former President Donald Trump, who were in contact with him before and during the event.

Committee Chairman Benny Thompson announced that the summonses, the first in the investigation, were given to Mark Meadows, former White House chief of staff, Dan Scabino, former deputy chief of staff, Kashyap Patel, a former senior Defense Department official, and Steve Bannon, a former Trump adviser. loyal aides of Trump.

Committee chairman Thompson wrote to the four that investigators believe they have relevant information. In Bannon's case, for example, Democrats cite his Jan. 5 forecast that "hell is about to arrive tomorrow" and his engagements with Trump a week before the riots, in which he urged the president to focus attention on 6 January.

the letter Medusa, Thompson cites his efforts to undo the defeat of Trump weeks preceding the uprising and the pressure exerted on officials to promote false claims about the former president's extensive counterfeiting election.

"you were a former chief of staff at the white house and you "Critical information about many elements of our investigation," Thompson wrote.

Thompson wrote that the commission has "credible evidence" of Medus' involvement in the events being investigated by it.

It also includes involvement in "planning and preparing efforts to appeal the results of the presidential election and delay the election of electors."

The letter also notes that the commission is interested in Medus' appeals to officials in the Justice Department to investigate possible election fraud.

Former Attorney General William Barr stated that his office did not detect any forgeries on a scale that could have affected the election results.

Regarding Patel, a former senior Defense Department official, the commission found that he had spoken to Medus "non-stop" on January 6. Thompson wrote to him that based on documents obtained by the commission, there is "substantial reason to believe you have documents and other information relevant to understanding the role played by the Department of Defense and the White House in preparing for a response to the U.S. Capitol attack."

Scabino, the former deputy chief of staff, was by Trump's side on Jan. 5 during a debate on persuading members of Congress to oppose Biden's confirmation of victory. He promoted on Twitter the rally that Trump held before the attack and encouraged supporters of the president "to be a part of history." In a letter to Scabino, Thompson wrote that the records in the committee's possession indicate that he "tweeted messages from the White House" on Jan. 6.

Thompson wrote that it appears that Skabino was with Trump on the day of the assault, and may have relevant material from that day. He noted the long-running relationship between Scabino and Trump,Lasting more than a decade.

The summonses will anger Republicans, most of whom have moved on after the incident and remained loyal to Trump even after condemning the attack.

Only two Republicans sit on the panel.

In July, the committee held its first hearing with four police officers who fought the insurgents and were wounded.

At least nine people who were there died during and after the riot, including a woman who was shot and killed by police while trying to break into the House and three other Trump supporters who suffered medical emergencies.

Two police officers died by suicide in the days that followed, and a third officer, Capitol Police Officer Brian Schicknik, collapsed and died after calling protesters.

A medical examiner later determined that he died of natural causes.

Metropolitan police announced this summer that two other officers who responded to the uprising, police officers Kyle de Freitag and Gunter Suspicion, also died in suicide.
