District - traffic accidents, house fires, catastrophes like the water of the century recently in North Rhine-Westphalia - every day people depend on the help of aid organizations such as the Red Cross, the fire brigade, the water rescue service or the technical relief organization.

All of these organizations have one thing in common: they also need support from volunteers. There are currently around 430,000 volunteers working for aid organizations in Bavaria, explains the Bavarian State Ministry of the Interior, for Sport and Integration. It is thanks to their work that the citizens receive the best possible help.

In order to honor this voluntary commitment of long-standing deserving members of the aid organizations in the district, District Administrator Thomas Karmasin invited to the Bruck District Office on September 17th. As part of the event, Karmasin presented the decorations awarded by the Bavarian State Minister of the Interior, Joachim Herrmann, to the

years of active service with the Bavarian Red Cross, the water rescue service and the technical aid organization.

Usually such awards are celebrated on a large scale, at which the honorees and accompanying person appear, but Corona prevented this. In order to keep the number of attendees low, the event was divided into two parts, so that 17 volunteer citizens were invited for September 17th, more people will follow on September 24th. The mayors of the communities from which the volunteers come from or in which they do their service could only be invited at short notice.

Of the 17 honorees, one is doing his service at THW Fürstenfeldbruck, one at the Grafrath water rescue service, two with the BRK standby in Germering, two with the Fürstenfeldbruck water rescue service, two with the BRK in Eichenau, three with the Germering water rescue service and a total of seven with the water rescue service in Mammendorf. Among the latter was Benjamin Miskowitsch, Member of the State Parliament, who was honored for 25 years of honorary office.

The invited Lord Mayor of Germering, Andreas Haas, is particularly impressed by 50 years of voluntary work that Helmut Höss has already performed at the BRK Germering.

“50, that's a number!” Praised the OB.

In addition to Höss, only one other person was honored for 50 years of voluntary work on this day: Angelika Steininger, who works for the BRK in Eichenau.

According to Karmasin, the floods in North Rhine-Westphalia showed “how quickly you can get into trouble”, but the “wave of solidarity” impressed him.

And so one can only hope that the influx of volunteers at the aid organizations will not stop in the future.
