Hama-Sana
The ancient Masyaf Citadel is located in the city of Masyaf in the western countryside of Hama Governorate.
The construction of the castle dates back to 44 BC during the Roman period, which witnessed the construction of fortifications and military sites to control the country's main roads, the most famous of which was placed on the western mountain ranges.
The fortress consists of an inner fortress built over the high southern part of the rocky top of the plateau in a square-like shape. Its corners are distributed roughly rectangular towers with two defensive levels, and in the middle is a heavenly courtyard with a ground level.
The upper fortress is surrounded by a first wall. The surface of the upper rocky plateau and the upper fortress includes five rectangular support towers. The inner fort is also surrounded by an external wall that surrounds the edges of the rocky plateau, and a number of rectangular towers at a two-level height equipped with small arrows.
The main entrance to the citadel is located in the southwest corner of the outer citadel. It is an Arab-Islamic architectural system consisting of two large halls with a long corridor between them.
