Almost all of Poing-Nord is connected to the Bayernwerk Natur GmbH district heating network.

Now the energy supplier is planning an expansion, also to Poing-Süd.

Poing - Bayernwerk Natur GmbH plans to expand the district heating network in Poing.

Sales managers Robert Budde and Viola Viel (sales heating networks) have now presented corresponding plans at the building committee meeting of the Poing municipal council.

As a result, the Lerchenwinkel development area in Poing-Nord and the areas Am Hanselbrunn / Osterfeldweg and Parksiedlung (Poing-Süd) are to be connected to the existing network.

The investment costs are estimated at around 3.5 million euros, construction is scheduled to start in the third quarter of 2022, and commissioning in summer 2023.

In the course of this, the energy center (on Gruber Strasse) will be expanded.

Poing: District heating for 20 years

For 20 years, parts of Poing have been supplied with district heating via the block-type thermal power station, and in September 2012 the geothermal system was also put into operation.

Here, hot deep water is pumped up from the earth and fed into the energy center for forwarding.

The return pumping station between Poing and Pliening closes the district heating cycle for the water, where the water is pressed back into the corresponding layer of earth.

Geothermal Poing in operation for nine years

According to Bayernwerk Natur GmbH, the share of geothermal energy in heat generation in the municipality of Poing is currently around 81 percent.

Almost all of Poing-Nord is supplied, with the exception of the residential areas W3 and W4, where the heat is generated using gas.

Poing-Süd has so far been connected to the district heating network with a few residential and public units.

Bayernwerk Natur GmbH has declared “Zero CO2 emissions” as the “declared goal for our district heating project in Poing”.

Poing: underground pump needs to be replaced

For a few days now, renovation work has been going on at the geothermal station in the west of Poing on the underground pump installed in 2009.

This must be replaced because the insulation resistance has "seriously deteriorated" in the past few months, reports the Bayernwerk.

"In the event of a further deterioration, a failure of the underground pump in the winter months can no longer be ruled out," says the report that Budde and Viel presented at the building committee meeting.

The costs for the general overhaul including borehole measurements are around 373,000 euros.

The new pump is scheduled to go into operation on October 1st.

This is how geothermal energy works in Poing

Geothermal energy is explained on the website of the municipality of Poing: The thermal water is fed via an underground pipeline from the production well to the geothermal heating center on Gruber Strasse. There it transfers its heat in geothermal heat exchangers to the district heating circuit. The cooled thermal water is then pumped through the thermal water return line to the re-injection well at the Pliening municipality boundary, where it is returned to the Malmkarst.

The Poinger Geothermie is a project of Bayernwerk Natur GmbH, there are no expenses for the community.

Bayernwerk spent around 27 million euros on the geothermal system including conveying and pressing technology, the thermal water pipes and the thermal integration into the heating plant on Gruber Strasse.

According to the company, the labor and power prices for end customers have been stable since 2016; they are currently around 30 euros for 60 kW (power price) and around 63 euros / MWh (labor price).
