It looks anything but rosy for the CSU at the moment. Current surveys only see them at 28 or 29 percent. This is what the CSU base in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district says about the values.

It looks anything but rosy for the CSU at the moment.

Current surveys only see them at 28 or 29 percent.

This is what the CSU base in the Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen district says about the values.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen - CSU district chairman Thomas Holz says it frankly.

"I'm really shocked when I saw the polls." The CSU only landed 29 percent in the poll by the GMS institute for the TV station Sat 1 on the federal election on September 26th.

That would be almost ten percent less than in 2017, when the CSU had already suffered massive losses with 38.8 percent.

"Maybe it's a wake-up call to our supporters to absolutely vote."

“I didn't expect it to develop like this,” says Holz.

But he can even get something positive out of it all.

"Maybe it's a wake-up call to our supporters to absolutely vote."

In Holz's opinion, the weakness of the CSU is also due to Chancellor candidate Armin Laschet (CDU).

“This is what you are asked about when you talk to people.

On Tuesday evening someone even asked me whether we could change the candidate after all, ”says Kochler.

Many are disappointed with Laschet, consider him pale and lacking in profile, says Holz.

"Some people also lack rough edges." The fact that many regular voters are migrating to the FDP is explained by the CSU district chairman with the Union's corona policy, which is stricter than the liberals.

In any case, it could not be due to the direct candidate Alexander Radwan, says Holz.

"He's doing a great election campaign."

No identification with the candidate for chancellor

Sabine Lorenz, district chairwoman of the Women’s Union, thinks the poll is “very bitter”. “I don't think it's justified either, because our MPs in Berlin really do a good job.” Obviously, the CSU is not able to “get our issues across properly,” says the Geretsriederin. But a lot is due to Laschet as a candidate for chancellor. “There is no identification with him here.” Some would even ask “who else we have posted next to Radwan and Söder”. Lorenz has also noticed that many want to give the first vote to the CSU candidate, “but then say that the FDP gets the second vote because of its economic competence”.

CSU, the mistakes of the past 16 years are also chalked up

State parliament member Martin Bachhuber has not only identified Laschet as a problem.

“The CSU was in government responsibility for 16 years.

Some people may be tired of it, ”says the Heilbrunner.

The refugee crisis in 2015, the Corona policy, Afghanistan - there are many things the citizens disagree with.

And that may now also be chalked up against the CSU.

He couldn't say anything about Laschet.

Bachhuber will see him live for the first time at the weekend at the party conference.

"But when I have a lot of concerns, I can tell that he doesn't have it in his cross to lead the Federal Republic." CDU / CSU will be the strongest party on September 26 ”.

Lenggrieser CSU chairman is afraid of a slip on the left

The CSU chairman Bernhard Simon from Lenggries is also building on this. “I hope that many regular voters will now vote for the CSU or even go to the polls.” The poll results made him “a little scared - afraid of slipping to the left, and that would be dramatic for Germany,” says Simon. The reasons for the poor poll number are complex. “Some more conservative voters have certainly migrated to the AfD. A few percent go to the free voters. ”But since they would probably fail at the five percent hurdle,“ those are lost votes. Voices that the political center lacks, ”says the Lenggrieser. The struggle between Söder and Laschet for the candidacy for chancellor was also not well received by many. “Although I personally don't think Armin Laschet is that bad. He is made worse than he is.Even if, of course, he was not so advantageous at times. ”Simon does not want to give up the election yet. “I am an optimistic person. But of course a lot still has to happen here. "

It's about the orientation of how we want to live in Germany in the future. "

Josef Rohrmoser shares Simon's opinion about Laschet.

"But we just don't get it communicated in such a way that he can become Chancellor," says the district and district chairman of the Junge Union.

In fact, the debate about the staff overlaps the debate about the content.

"I keep hearing that our direct candidate is elected, but when it comes to the second vote, many say: 'How could you put the staff up like that?'" The argument between Söder and Laschet did not help.

The fact that the CSU only got 29 percent in the latest survey "was a fundamental blow," admits Rohrmoser.

It is simply not possible to get the issue across to the citizens.

This choice is “about a hell of a lot”, says the Heilbrunner.

"It is about the orientation of how we want to live in Germany in the future." The SPD has no interest in a continuation of the grand coalition.

"Red-Red-Green will then be the next government." For Rohrmoser this means "largely an isolation in foreign policy and a further weakening of the economy".

The JU will therefore "do everything to ensure that the Union will still be in first place in the election".
