Erlangen - In addition to the independent city, the district of Erlangen-Höchststadt is part of the constituency.
The city is characterized by a high degree of direct democracy and, with a large number of referendums, offers its residents the opportunity to actively shape politics.
Of 180,730 eligible voters, 81.9% exercised their right to vote in the 2017 federal election.
Around 257,100 inhabitants live on a total area of 720.5 km². Erlangen thus has a population density of 356.8 inhabitants / km², which is typical for metropolitan areas. The constituency benefits from the economically strong structure with a high gross domestic product. The unemployment rate of 3.6% in 2017 is well below the national average. Most employees in jobs subject to social security contributions are found in the manufacturing industry (almost 40%). Another 45% earn their income in the field of public, private and other services.
