The planned lake in the new Kirchheimer Ortspark - the architects have to do it again.

At least that's what Green Councilor Berit Vogel thinks.

The maintenance costs should remain low and the lake should become ecologically valuable.

"In particular, the depth of the lake, which all experts consider to be too low, requires urgent action."

The lake is getting deeper

Klaus Schroll from the architects Sinai went into detail on Vogel's demands.

According to this, the desired deepening of the lake will be realized, "we are now dredging from two to an average of three meters depth, which increases the lake volume from 8300 to 9400 cubic meters, which has a positive effect on the water temperature," said Schroll.

There are three times as long soft edges around the lake as hard, straight ones.

“The entire west side is softly designed with embankments plus many reed islands.

On the east side we have a straight edge with balconies and terraces, where it is possible to stay on the water and the cleaning filter is directly adjacent to the water. "

Wetland is not desirable because of mosquitoes alone

According to Schroll, the separation of the lake into a northern wetland and a southern lake, which Vogel wanted, is not possible. The two parts of the lake are connected to each other by a two-meter-wide flow opening. “We achieve a current from south to north and thus a good exchange of water. In addition, a wetland right in front of the town hall and the citizens' hall is not desired in terms of design because of the mosquitoes to be expected, ”said Schroll.

Vogel criticized that the main road through the park, which was five meters too wide, would be reduced to four meters, the other main routes from 3.50 to three meters.

There are different fortifications, because of the accessibility and the cyclists you cannot do without asphalt or concrete completely.

70 percent native and 30 percent foreign species are used for plants. "We have to react to climate change here," said Schroll.

It doesn't work without a filter system

Marion Reichel from the Björnsen engineering office discussed the retention filter system criticized by Vogel. “The lake is artificial, has no connection to a running water, natural self-cleaning is not to be expected. However, we strive for high water quality with little algae growth, so we need a filter system, ”explained Reichel. Fall foliage, aquatic animals and birds, the feeding of these by park visitors and the rain lead to pollution and many nutrients such as phosphorus and nitrate. “That is why we will be planting a lot of reeds for near-natural water purification. Water from the lake flows into funnels and slats and is pumped into the reeds. The water there is purely biologically purified without chemical additives, ”explained Reichel.

Klaus Schroll promised that the lake will be completely flooded in March 2023, one year before the state horticultural show.
